DLF reports first ever quarterly loss of Rs 4 cr on slow home sales

DLF, India’s largest real estate developer, posted its first ever quarterly net loss of Rs 4.19  crore for the January-March quarter, weighed down by slowing home sales in a sluggish economy.

Losses of Rs 77 crore in its insurance and hotel subsidiaries contributed to the overall quarterly loss, the company said in a statement late on Thursday.

DLF, which builds homes, offices and shopping malls, has lost about 61 percent of its value since listing on the stock exchange in 2007, underperforming the wider market

DLF was valued by the market at $6.5 billion as of Thursday’s close.

Once passed by Parliament and subsequently ad opted by each state, it will allow for the creation of a real estate regulator in each state (realty being a state subject). While the Bill applies to residential properties, commercial real estate has been kept out of its purview. Let us examine the pros and cons of the draft Bill in its latest avatar.

Parsvnath goes for rebranding, launches scheme for home buyers

In a fiercely competitive market, a brand has to be constantly updated so that it does not get outdated. “Brands have to constantly adjust, change and find newer ways,” said Pradeep Jain, Chairman, Parsvnath Developers Ltd, while unveiling the company’s new logo. The exercise was part of the real estate company’s new corporate identity.

To realign with its rebranding strategy, the company also announced a scheme wherein a consumer can pay 25 per cent amount of booking while investing in a Parsvnath home like Parsvnath Exotica and the rest (75 per cent) on possession of the housing unit. However, the scheme is only for 20 residential projects which are at several stages of development. These projects are mostly in Delhi-NCR, Sonepat, Dharuhera, Bhiwadi, Rohtak, Ujjain, Saharanpur and Rajpura. Delhi-NCR accounts for almost eight of the total 20 projects.
